archetype group project
This group project was done in twos or threes. Each group was required to randomly draw a few similar archetypes to create a five-look collection. My partner and I got T-shirt, sweatshirt and sweatpants as our archetypes.
We wanted our collection to express comfort, freedom and vulnerability, as that is what our archetypes usually correlate to. So, we decided to start from Tracy Emin’s art installation“My Bed,” where she showcased her own bed when she was going through a hard point in her life. From the pictures of her bed, we traced out a few shapes that we could then base the drapes off of.
From there, we proceeded to drape with our archetypes and both sketched out a large variety of separate garments that we then paired together to create a full look. Furthermore, for fabric manipulation, we decided to quilt a few large jersey panels within the looks to resemble an uncovered pillow.
